VMGMA's board to focus on four-part strategic plan by Julie T. Riddle, MHA The Virginia Medical Group Management Association (VMGMA) Board has been busy working on your behalf. I am so excited to see us moving forward with a focus on our strategic plan. There are four components: 1) Communication — The new VMGMA Web site was just rolled out. This Web site gives us a fresh, new look and puts information at your fingertips. The board recently completed a thorough revision to the organization’s bylaws, which we will include in the members-only section. I encourage you to learn more about how your organization operates.
2) Membership — A new member benefit is our lending library. We are purchasing a collection of health care reference books, and will be allowing members to check them out. Look for future updates on this program and all the details on our new Web site. Our organization is always looking for ways to expand membership and share our organization with others. In this spirit, we partnered with a group of Northern Virginia practice administrators to host a meeting in June. This group is trying to establish a quarterly networking group, which may evolve into an affiliate chapter. The next meeting will be Sept. 24 at Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax. You can contact Mari Jo Banner with any questions about this newly developing group at: mbanner@ffpcs.com. 3) Vendors — The board is working to develop a new sponsorship package for our vendors. We want vendors to be able to promote themselves on the Web site and have exceptional access to our members. Getting to know the vendors provides you a great resource as you evaluate products and services for your practice. By the end of 2008, we will be presenting exciting, new ways for vendors to support the VMGMA. 4) American College of Medical Practice Executives — At this spring’s Roanoke meeting, we brought assessment testing to the attendees. We will be doing so again, at our Virginia Beach meeting. This is a great way for you to learn your strengths and weaknesses and prepare for advancing through the college. In addition, we are purchasing key publications for our lending library to help prepare members for this process. These are four themes we keep repeating — but will hopefully strengthen our organization! If all of this sounds interesting to you, and you want to be a part of the planning and growth, speak up. We have two board positions to fill, and we are open to new ideas. Look in this newsletter for specific details on the application process for the board and for a summary of the duties and expectations. Fill your summer with fun, and I’ll see ya at the beach!!!
